Maybelline Magnum UltraComb Mascara

Hey,

So the other day, Watson’s was having a crazy sale for their 24th anniversary or something like that so I went during lunch and picked up a couple of things. But mostly, i'll be reviewing the Maybelline mascara with the ridiculously long name.. like seriously.

I was also quite happy with the Boujour Touche Healthy Mix conclealer which is specifically for dark circles. I like the texture which was really smooth, slightly shear, doesn’t crease and the colour is kinda peachy toned. I’m wearing it in the photo below with the mascara.

So to the Maybelline Magnum Volum'Express UltraComb Waterproof Mascara

"Exquisitely curved to fit Asian eyelids, this neat little package delivers defined and sleek lashes with just one wiggle, effectively grabbing every lash from root to tip as it deposits a perfect amount of product with just one coat, voluming each lash by seven times with its unique collagen-filled fluid." [TODAYonline]

I’m comparing this to my current favourite drugstore mascara which is the Maybelline Volum’Express Cat Eyes waterproof. Why do they all have to have such bloody long names?

Anyway, I really like the comb of that one which is why is decided to try this.
This comb is really flexible which makes sure that you have to be gentle with your lashes. And as u can see, it doesn’t pick up a ton of product for each dip so you won’t make a huge mess on your eyelids. You might have to re-dip and use a couple more coats but it will prevent clumping.

Comparatively, it’s less volumising than the Cat Eyes but it also isn’t as hard and ‘crispy’ on the lashes, so it’s more comfortable to wear. Its less messy so I don’t have to be as careful with my application. And I think it’s also slightly easier to remove.

So below (on the left), I curled my lashes and applied 2 coats on the bottom and top lashes. I also lightly applied the Boujour Touche Healthy Mix conclealer under my eye. My eyes have been quite irritated and red the whole day.

Then (on the right) I removed all of it with a cotton square and the Bifesta Eye Makeup Remover. I didn’t wash my face at all before taking the photo.

Colour me impressed, I really like the Bifesta Eye Makeup Remover.
Usually, there’s residue left behind at the base of my lashes, but there was absolutely nothing there. A few days later I used it to remove some really heavy and it worked just as well. If this remover work on me, it'll work on anybody..
I just need to press the soaked cotton square against my eyelid, let it do it’s thang for abit, then wipe the rest off. Awesome..
My eyes are kinda sensitive, and this remover was really gentle and  didn’t make my eyes any redder than it was.

Monochromatic smokey- Look of the Day

I was sort of inspired by the Rae Morris Express makeup book that Marie lent me. Excuse the bad lighting in my office. It wasnt based on any particular look in the book but rather just playing with highlights and shadows to enhance the eye. Hm.. i quite like it maybe i should do i video on this?

Products used:

* Sleek Sunset palette, black, burgundy and the peachy champagne (2nd from the bottom right)
* Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner, black and brown

Ladies' Night Sunset Smokey Eye

Funny thing Marie and I realized was that after we did out respective videos, we pretty much used the same make up brands and items. We both used a Sleek palette, Dior mascara and a Nyx matte lip cream.
Or rather, we have the same items in our make up bags.

Anyway, my friends have been requesting for a simpler smokey eye so here it is. If any of you want to request certain looks, feel free to let us know :)

In other updates, i've just bought some new camera equipment, battery grip, circular polarizer filter and a wide angle converter. If you didn't already know, Marie and I use my Nikon D7000(my baby) to film. I studied photography when i was in design school but i didn't major in it. I'm rather excited to try my 'new' lighting.. White balance and over-exposure issues annoy me more than it should.

why.is.marie.always.so.busy

Hey everyone!

Reading all of Andrea's post with gorgeous pictures makes me feel really guilty for being so busy with everything else and not posting/videoing!

Just a quick update of what I'm working on right now, I'm preparing for my Cosmoprof makeup school exam and portfolio! Whooo! Exciting much. Been organising my models, looks, clothes, accessories and all!

(Okay, all my friends know I'm juggling like a hundred things at one go, I'm also working, getting paperwork ready, planning my upcoming Sydney trip, emailing a hundred people on top of trying to have a life meeting friends, spending time with family and most importantly my insanity workout!)

I think I would be posting up photos of my 5 looks, day bridal, night bridal, high fashion, runway and face painting (geisha & chinese mask thingy). So keep a look out for those!

Here are some looks/special effects I've been working on. Enjoy!

Bullet wounds to your liking? haha, maybe for halloween or something!

Khalisah being my model for my mock exam; night bridal look.
Just a small sample of my face painting I'll be doing. ;)

More to come! xoxo

ps. I'm sorry I don't own a facy camera like Andrea thus the iPhone quality pictures. Maybe if someone is willing to sponsor me..... haha. jokes na. I'll earn my own keep dammit! haha

Probably not wedding appropriate make up..

I was playing around with my NEW Mac products (haul video comin' up soon), NEW Sugarpill Firefly individual lashes and my Urban Decay shadow pencils before i was going to a wedding.
The wedding was at this place called The China Club and it was a gorgeous, very modern chinese-themed restaurant on the 52nd floor of Capitol Tower. The view was breathtaking..
I think everyone thought i was the entertainment though.. not a relative.

Last Saturday Night

I wore this out last saturday night, didnt film a video for it though. I actually started out with the thought that i'd do the smokey burgundy eye but then decided to do it a bit more purple with a more defined crease. And i used a NYX retractable eyeliner in Purple for the bottom.

I've actually just finished editing my travel make up bag video but i think i'll post it up next week 'cause i've already uploaded 2 videos this week. My usual lens (Tamron 17-50mm f2.8) is also giving me problems.. it has abit of white misty spot in the centre. so i need to get it cleaned this weekend. That also means that neither of us has filmed a video this week :/
Although... i could use my Nikon 50mm prime lens.. hmm

I also bought 4 very exciting glitter/holographic nail polishes this week! But i'll leave that for another post.

Ohhhh 1 last thing, after posting the hair video, we got like 30 new subscribers overnight! Woot so exciting! Thanks so much to all of you that subscribed :D

I am my hair.

Hey guys,

In all honesty, I get random strangers coming up to me and talking about my hair at least thrice a week. I'm from Singapore and i guess it's not particularly common?

On my way to work, on the bus, at the train station, in the toilet, while shopping, in the club, in elevators,  while eating.. you name it..
And at least half the people are middle-aged and they have the most enthralled look on their faces. The young people are usually just like, 'hey, cool hair'.
Whereas the older people would even strike up a conversation from the next table, while i'm eating.. What? Haha

So the most recent funny story would be about this middle aged guy in the elevator.
It was in the morning at my office building, and i got in the elevator and usually i have sunglasses on and headphones in, cause i don't like facing the world before noon.
So this blue-collar man in his late 50s, gets in after me and he goes like (in singlish):
Man: 'Wa! Your hair so nice, how much you pay?'
Me: 'Oh, i did it myself.'
Man: 'Wa! Not bad ah.'
Me: 'Thanks, it's sort of a hobbie.'
Man: 'You learn from book ah?'
Me: 'No, from internet.'
Man: 'Ohhh..'
Me: 'Yea haha.'

*awkward silence for the next few floors till he gets off*

Another one:

I'm walking out for lunch with my friend and there's this lady and her friend walking from the opposite direction towards us. And as she passes me, she pops her head out, in front of mine and says with the most amazed look on her face: 'Wow i love you hair!'.
I'm like half stunned and half laughing, saying 'Thanksss'

So here, some gratuitous hair shots.. Enjoy!

Oh and if any other rainbow-haired people have stories to share, please put it in the comments below.

A Quickie with Sleek

I always choose sleep over more time to get ready in the mornings, and on other occasions I sometimes get carried away doing something and loosing track of time! Thus, MOST of my makeup looks that I do daily usually takes 10 minutes or less to do! I hope you like my look and feel free to play around with different colors to suit your personality and outfit! :D
